Those who slowed their vehicles to shoot off missiles were cut down immediately.  Runaway chariots and riderless horses added to the confusion as they wheeled about in terror and plunged, foam-mouthed, into the onlooking soldiers.  The remaining chariot drivers saw the futility of continuing and fled the field with the Scythians racing after them.
