One of the extremely common techniques applied by fraudsters is application identity theft. The fraudsters often use discarded mail, stolen from your garbage, to apply for a credit card. Quite typically, they might be looking for things such as a discarded utility bill, a bank statement or even - and these are gold dust for the fraudsters - one of those pre-approved credit card applications. You know the ones - you didn’t apply for them but they keep turning up in your mail box anyway.
