Humanistic Theory And Society
October 13, 2009 5:36 am MiscellaneousThe basic tenet behind humanistic theory is that successful, well developed individuals are better placed to make a positive contribution to society. It is basically about the development of the individual and the hierarchy of needs enshrined in the theory suggests that, as individuals basic needs are satisfied they are more able to develop “higher” skills and have more time to devote to the more socially valuable areas of life rather than struggling to scratch out an existence. It is very focused on the individual and was a very popular theory in the 1970’s. It does seem to be slightly out of favor today as the political climate has moved somewhat to the right.
